UKU Leader Award

The Leader Award is for adults who have little or no experience of Ultimate but have some experience of coaching and leading sports activities. This might include teachers, youth leaders, community coaches, and so on.

 

Workshop Length: 3 hours.

Participants: Adults, 18+

Content: The course focuses on the basics of Ultimate: throwing, catching, games, drills, basic tactics, self-officiating. 

Resources: The resource pack includes a DVD with game footage, activity & game cards co-produced with Youth Sport Trust.

Hosting Price: £36 per person for a minimum of 8 people. Please email for further details.

Availability: Weekdays and weekends, including evenings. This course can be delivered as a twilight CPD session.

UKU Sports Leader Award

The Sports Leader Award is for young people who have little to no experience of Ultimate but have some experience of coaching and leading sports activities, or who are working towards this in school or other formal settings. This might include young ambassadors, JSLA, CSLA, Duke of Edinburgh, GCSE, and so on. 

 

Workshop Length: 3 hours.

Participants: Young People / Leaders. KS4 & KS5

Content: The course focuses on the basics of Ultimate: throwing, catching, games, drills, basic tactics, self-officiating. 

Resources: The resource pack includes a DVD with game footage, activity & game cards co-produced with Youth Sport Trust.

Hosting Price: £36 per person for a minimum of 8 people. Please email for further details.

Availability: Ideally during curriculum time but can also be delivered on weekdays and weekends, including evenings.

Level 1

We offer two Level 1 coaching courses:

Level 1X for those who have little or no playing experience

Level 1 for Ultimate players with at least 6 months' playing experience

The Level 1X is a comprehensive introduction to coaching Ultimate.

We mix practical and classroom time to cover all the fundamentals of playing and coaching Ultimate.

Workshop Length: 6 hours.
3 hours practical
3 hours theory

Participants: age 14+

Content: Throwing, catching, fundamental tactics, games, activities and drill, self-officiating.

Resources: Comprehensive resource pack including a DVD with game footage and activity cards co-produced with the Youth Sport Trust.

Sports Structures:

We work with our partners Sport Structures to deliver the Level 1X to individuals.

The Level 1 is a comprehensive introduction on how to coach Ultimate. You should have at least 6 months' experience playing to take this course.

We mix classroom time with practical application to cover the fundamentals of coaching and the specifics of coaching Ultimate.

Workshop Length: 8 hours.
6 hours theory
2 hours practical

Participants: age 14+

Content: Focusing on the fundamentals of coaching Ultimate: throwing, catching, games, drills, tactics and self-officiating. 

Resources: First steps into coaching resources, UKU Workbook, UKU handbook and more.

Price: £85 per person

Availability: Please view the coaching calendar to find a course near you. We aim to run 10 Level 1 courses around the UK each calendar year.

Level 2

The Level 2 Coaching Award is the next step in the UKU Coaching Scheme following on from the Level 1 Award.

To obtain the Level 2 Award, a prospective coach will collect a total of 32 credits. The course consists of a mandatory 20 credits obtrained through the Core Module, Mentoring Scheme and First Aid. The remaining 12 credits can be collected from a number of options.

The UKU L2 Core Module and UKU Mentoring Scheme are provided by UK Ultimate. The third section is a First Aid qualification that can be attained from various external organisations. More information about which courses we accept can be found by - clicking here.

UKU L2 Core Module

Workshop Length: 1 day.

Participants: Level 1 Coaches, Adults 18+

Content: Focusing on developing the coaching skills of a Level 2 Ultimate Coach; the role of a Level 2 Coach for Spirit of the Game, Self-Officiating and Rules Knowledge; developing Drills for Ultimate; planning practices; some Ultimate-specific content on Horizontal Stack and Zone Defence.

UKU Mentoring Scheme

Mentor Length: up to 8 hours 

Participants: Following the L2 Core Module you will be connected with your mentor.

Content: The purpose is to further develop your skills following the L2 Core Module. The prospective L2 coach will plan, deliver and review a series of coaching sessions. After arranging mentor sessions and completing relevant review documents, the prospective coach will submit their portfolio of coaching, planning and review sheets to be assessed and signed off by UKU.

Attending: Mentoring may take place in person, over the telephone or via a video call.

Price: £150 or £75 depending on mentoring structure (please email for further details, admin@ukultimate.com)

 

First Aid

Workshop Length: 6 hours (1 day)

Participants: Most providers welcome young people from the age of 12 onto all First Aid courses. If under the age of 16, they must attend with a responsible adult member of the family or guardian (two young people per adult). Currently all UK Ultimate Level 2 coaches need to be 18+

Content: These courses will give you all the necessary First Aid skills to deal with a whole range of sporting injuries and emergency first aid.

Attending: Various agencies and organisations deliver First Aid courses that can be used for the 6 compulsory L2 credits. The most common are St. John Ambulance and British Red Cross. If you are unsure that your course is recognised by UK Ultimate, please contact us by email, admin@ukultimate.com

Flik

In 2017 we have partnered with Flik offer optional credits for the UKU Level 2 Coaching Award. The Flik Clinics are an opportunity to develop Ultimate skills and understanding, and to reflect upon different coaching styles for delivering Ultimate sessions.

Mentoring

As part of the UK Ultimate Level 2 Coaching Certificate prospective coaches need to complete a mentoring module worth 8 credits. At the end of this module of work coaches will have produced a portfilio of their coaching.

At the end of the Core Module day, you are asked to analyse your coaching.

After four sessions the prospective coach will arrange a Skype call, or face-to-face, with their coach mentor.

Submit your finished portfilio to your coach mentor for assessment. If you have achived the standard expected then you gain the credits.

Sometimes the coach mentor will ask you to complete four more hours and highlight what needs to be achived

Q: Do the first four sessions need to have been delivered after attending the Level 2 Core Module day?
A: No. But ideally they would be. Hopefully you will leave the day with a better understanding of planning at a Level 2 standard. However, if you feel you already do then please use past - but recent - sessions.
