UKU/SSS Scottish Open & Women's University Outdoor Championships - Resuls & Spirit
Congratulations to Edinburgh (Women) and St Andrews (Open) for their victories at SSS Champs this weekend. Congratulations also to the Women's teams from Aberdeen, Glasgow and St Andrews who through their results at this event booked their placed (alongside Edinburgh) at BUCS Championships in Nottingham in April. (The remaining teams will get to go to Nottingham too, but in division 2.)
Edinburgh Women put in a very impressive performance, beating their closest (though admittedly short-handed) rivals, Aberdeen, 13-0 in the final. In fact, there weren't too many close games throughout the event, with a fairly clear ranking of teams becoming apparent very quickly. The others have quite a bit to do to catch up with the leaders!
In the Open division, St Andrews avenged last year's final defeat to Dundee, this time coming out on top 11-7. With BUCS qualification already decided through the league program, this event was all about 1st place, and a very closely contested final showed how much both teams wanted those medals. In the battle of the second teams, St Andrews 2 showed the value of their experience in the league programme once again, and finished as the highest second team despite often being down to only 7 fit players.
Full results can be seen on the schedule.
Lost property has already been posted on the regional Facebook group - do check there if you are missing anything.
Spirit of the game results are below, for both divisions. Trophies weren't given out on the day as the submission rates were very low at the end of the event and had to be chased up - do try and get better at that! - but will be provided to Heriot-Watt Women and Edinburgh Open next time we see them. The tie-breaker in women's was simply that Edinburgh already had the medals, so we'll let the spirit trophy go to Heriot - but that shouldn't take away from the fact that Edinburgh also demonstrated equally good spirit.
