Junior South East Cup - U14s/U17s

Submitted by Mark Bignal on Sun, 18/03/2018 - 10:08pm
Event date:
13 Oct 2018 - 11:00 - 17:00
Event details:

Reading Ultimate is pleased to announce the Junior South East Cup on Saturday 13th October 2018 at Arborfield Leisure Centre in Arborfield, Berkshire. We will have 2 divisions: Under-14 (Year 8 and below) and Under-17 (Year 11 and below). We will have 2 pitches in a newly build sportshall (hardcourt surface; indoor trainers required)

Timings

Games will start at 11am and games will be finished at 5pm followed by a short presentation/award ceremony.

Ability/Format

Please note that unlike many other sports, Ultimate tournaments follow a waterfall format where all teams play the same amount of games irrelevant of finishing positions (you don’t get knocked out early). The tournament caters for all abilities including total beginners. If you are a newly formed school team, you are very, very much invited!

2 Divisions:

-          Under-14s (Year 8 and below)

-          Under-17s (Year 11 and below)

Gender

The tournament is Open, there are no gender restrictions - all-male teams, or all-female teams, or anything in between, are absolutely fine.

Please contact Mark Bignal (mark.bignal@gmail.com) if there are any queries.

Entry

£30 per team. The event has been subsidised by Reading Ultimate

Deadline: Friday 21st September

If the tournament is oversubscribed at the closing date (Friday 21st September) we will prioritise first teams from each institution, and then second teams above third teams etc all the way down. If the cut-off happens to fall between teams at the same level (e.g. 4th teams from two institutions) then priority will go to whoever entered on the earliest date (or be decided by the drawing of lots if we can't separate them by date). Once the initial deadline has passed, places are confirmed, and the entry of a new first team will not 'bump' someone's 3rd team anymore - it's literally first come first served at that stage for any remaining places.

UKU Junior (U20) Open Indoor Nationals 2017/18 [Rescheduled]

Submitted by Ant on Thu, 15/03/2018 - 12:46pm
Event date:
29 Apr 2018 (All day)
Event details:

The UKU Junior (U20) Open indoor Championships will be held on the rescheduled date of Sunday 29th April 2018, at the University of Wolverhampton sports centre on their Walsall Campus.

Games will start at approximately 10am and are expected to finish by around 5pm, followed by a short presentation/award ceremony.

Please note that this is a ONE DAY event, held on the SUNDAY ONLY.

Eligibility

There is no qualifying round, and no 'minimum standard' that your team must meet - there will certainly be teams of beginners participating. If you are a newly formed school team, you are very, very much invited!

Note that unlike many other sports, Ultimate tournaments are always played out for position all the way down - so even teams ranked e.g. 13th-16th in their division will still play a Quarter, Semi and Final in their bracket. Even the most inexperienced team will still expect to play the same number of games as the winners - you don't get knocked out early at these events! Come and join in the fun.

As per the UKU Junior eligibility rules, to be eligible for this UKU under-20 division you must have been born on or after January 1st 1999.

Please contact Junior Coordinator Joe Wyatt (joewyatt7[at]gmail.com) if there are any queries.

If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team locally, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation to the Junior Forum (email to: joewyatt7[at]gmail.com is sufficient) and have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. It is NOT appropriate for teams to be formed from friends all over the country (e.g. GB players) without checking with the Junior coordinator.

Please also note that eligibilty decisions are made by volunteers - we're keen to help out, but do make sure to get your requests in early to make that easier.

Entry

Entry is now open for this event (through the UKU Entry Form) and will close at 12 noon on Friday 23rd March. After this deadline we will post the list of confirmed teams on both our website and the Schools Newsletter.

If we do have a few places remaining after that date, they will be awarded on a first come first served basis. As this is a one-day event, we cannot guarantee that spaces will still be available after the deadline, so ideally make sure that you enter on time!

If the tournament is oversubscribed at the closing date, we will prioritise first teams from each institution, and then second teams above third teams etc all the way down. If the cut-off happens to fall between teams at the same level (e.g. 4th teams from two institutions) then priority will be decided by the drawing of lots. Once the initial deadline has passed, places are confirmed, and the entry of a new first team will not 'bump' someone's 7th team anymore - it's literally first come first served at that stage for any remaining places.

Please note that while we do not demand payment in order to secure your spot (we are aware how slow the payment process can be at some institutions) any team who is entered as of the closing date should consider themselves committed to payment even if they subsequently drop out. Obviously if circumstances are very much out of your control then we may make an exception, but in general when we allocate you a spot without pre-payment we must trust that you will pay at some point - otherwise we would just have a situation where everyone entered 12 teams and then withdrew whatever they didn't want. Any entry is normally considered binding if you have not withdrawn it BEFORE the closing date (unless, of course, you don't get a place due to oversubscription - we won't charge you for that!).

Accommodation

Hopefully the central location and single-day format will mean that the majority of teams will be able to travel to and from the event on the day. However, for those in need of an overnight stay, places like www.travelodge.co.uk often have good deals, and there are a smattering of Youth Hostels nearby (www.yha.org.uk).

If you are really struggling for accommodation, please get in touch on events@ukultimate.com and we will do what we can to assist with suggestions, but we do not offer accommodation as part of the tournament.

Other info

Please note: Clubs are welcome to enter more than one team, but in the event that the tournament is oversubscribed clubs entering multiple teams may find lower-ranked teams placed on a waiting list.

Essential: Do not enter a team unless you have AT LEAST 7 fit players who are able to travel. If you have any players under-18 playing, you must have at least one non-playing adult with the team, in case they need to accompany injured players to hospital or similar.

UKU Junior (U20) Outdoor Nationals & Schools National Championships 2017-18

Submitted by megprice on Thu, 05/10/2017 - 11:08am
Event date:
30 Jun 2018 (All day)
Event details:

We are pleased to announce that UKU Junior (U20) Outdoor Nationals & Schools National Championships 2017-18 will be a one day event held at the University of Leicester Playing Fields, Stoughton Road on Saturday 30th June 2018.

Schedule: https://goo.gl/CcZpwx

Info Pack: https://goo.gl/1GTvmR

Spirit Form: https://goo.gl/65hcy9

Junior Nationals is played 7-a-side (full-size pitches)

UKU Schools National Championship Finals is played 5-a-side (reduced size pitches)

All events are Open divisions (i.e. no restrictions on gender) - there's nothing to prevent either an all-male or all-female team, or anywhere in between. A large percentage of teams will be mixed gender, so bring whatever mix of players you like!

We are of course aware that it can be tricky to organise logistics for something like this, but we'd love to have as many of you there as possible, so do please get in touch on the email below with any questions at all and we'll do what we can to help you make it happen.

Entry is through the UKU Event Entry Form.

And don't miss the closing date - Friday 4th May 2018 - 12 noon.

JUNIOR NATIONALS

Player Eligibility: Born on or after 1st Jan 1999

Membership/Affiliation requirements:

Players playing for UKU-affiliated schools playing as school teams are not required to have membership.

All other players must have minimum Basic Membership of UK Ultimate.

Team sizes and planning:

Clubs must ensure that they have appropriate levels of adult supervision in place for the event.

Based on past experience please note that you should not enter a team unless you have at least 10 fit players able to travel.

We also strongly recommend that teams plan to have a non-playing adult travelling with the team.   There have been instances where small teams have had an injury, and a second player has had to accompany the injured player to hospital, leaving behind a team that is too small to continue. This not only spoils the tournament for the team concerned, but also for their opposition who have travelled and paid to play games, only to find they have a walkover - not ideal for anyone.

Need a team?
If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation by emailing admin[at]ukultimate.com and have UKU ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. Where possible, players are linked up with players from a similar geographical area.

Multiple-teams:

Clubs/schools are welcome to enter more than one team, but in the event that the tournament becomes oversubscribed, clubs entering multiple additional teams may find lower ranked teams placed on a waiting list.

UKU SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS

Player Eligibility: We expect to run 2 divisions.

For the Y11 Division, all players must be in Year 11 or lower.

For the Y8 Division, all players must be in Year 8 or lower.

Team Eligibility:

All teams must be strictly school teams.  In the future we expect all teams will have to qualify through local qualification events.  For the time being, all school teams that wish to enter will be considered eligible.

Given that we are still not at the stage of having numerous regional qualifiers, for now we WILL accept multiple entries from one school (only if there is room of course - priority always given to 1st teams). This should NOT be taken to mean that this will always be possible in the future, but for now we see no benefit in turning teams away.

Membership/Affiliation requirements:

Players do not need individual membership provided the school is UKU-affiliated. Please contact admin[at]ukultimate.com for more information on Schools Affiliation.

Team sizes and planning:

RULES: Please remember this is a 5-a-side competition played to the “UKU-Schools” adapted rules with smaller playing area, and relatively short games.  Exact game-lengths and tournament format will depend on the number of teams that enter.

UKU Juniors & Schools Women's Indoor Nationals 2017/18

Submitted by megprice on Thu, 25/05/2017 - 1:30pm
Event date:
12 Nov 2017 - 10:00 - 17:00
Event details:

UKU Juniors & Schools Women's Indoor Nationals (JWIN) will be held this year at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton. It will be a one day event on Sunday 12th November (approx 10am-5pm) on at least 3 pitches. We will run competitions in 3 different age brackets - U20, U17 and U14 - and we will have space for at least 24 teams total.

*****************

SCHEDULE: https://goo.gl/J7U3M8

Info Pack: https://goo.gl/xdcHct

PDFs of both documents can be found at the bottom of this page.

*****************

The day will run from approximately 10am-5pm.

Entry into the tournament will cost £70 per team.  Payment will be made directly to UK Ultimate.  In order to secure a place in the tournament, please fill in the form here:

http://www.ukultimate.com/event_entry_form

Please note that the initial deadline for entries will be Thursday 19th October (open from Wednesday 27th September). The deadline is relatively early (3 weeks from the tournament) in order that we can confirm who has a spot in plenty of time to organise your transport etc.

Before this deadline, priority will go to 1st teams from each institution. At this deadline, remaining available spaces in the tournament may be allocated to second and third teams. If you would like to enter more than one team per age group, please be aware that they may not all get in (and won't be confirmed until after the closing date). With the larger 3-pitch tournament, we do hope to accommodate all the teams who wish to participate, but we can't guarantee it until after that date.

It is possible that there will be room available after the closing date, and we will allow more teams to enter if that's the case. The big difference will be that you won't get priority over someone else's third team any more!

If you have a small number of players but not enough for a full team (or enough for 1 but not quite enough for 2), please get in touch because it's likely that others will be in the same position and we could combine players so that more girls get to take part. Of course, all combined teams must be approved by UKU to prevent deliberate super-teams forming, so do please contact Junior coordinator Joe Wyatt on joewyatt7[at]gmail.com to discuss.

Eligibility:

There is no qualifying round, and no 'minimum standard' that your team must meet. If you are a newly formed school team, you are very, very much invited!

Lots of new institutions have joined UK Ultimate over the past 12 months, and we'd be delighted if as many as possible could make it to this tournament. There will be a very large range of abilities, with many teams of complete beginners, so do not feel intimidated by the 'Nationals' designation - it's open to everyone and everyone will have a great time.

As per the UKU Junior eligibility rules, to be eligible for the UKU under-20 division you must have been born on or after January 1st 1997.

To be eligible for the U17 division, you must be in Year 11 or below.

To be eligible for the U14 division, you must normally be in Year 8 or below, but for this tournament so early in the school year we are happy for younger Year 9s (i.e. those with birthdays from January-August) to play in the Y8 division also.

Where possible teams should be made up of girls from a single club / school / organisation but where that is not possible, the first option should usually be to pick up for the most local team.  If you want to play for a team that is not your school team, please get in touch with joewyatt7[at]gmail.com and we will do what we can to make sure that this is done fairly.

Multiple teams:
Places will initially be reserved for first teams. Any additional teams will be placed on a waiting list.  These teams will be given spaces if they are still available after the initial deadline, with priority going to second teams, then third teams if appropriate. For teams at the same level places will be distributed on a first come first served basis - i.e. second team spots go to the earliest second teams to enter, and third team spots to the earliest third teams to enter, but that does NOT mean that an early third team goes ahead of someone else's second team.

Other info:

Do not enter a team unless you have AT LEAST 7 fit players who are able to travel.

Have at least one non-playing adult with the team, in case they need to accompany injured players to hospital or similar (strongly advised for U20s, obviously a necessity for younger age groups!).

All events are Open divisions (i.e. no restrictions on gender) - there's nothing to prevent either an all-male or all-female team, or anywhere in between. A large percentage of teams will be mixed gender, so bring whatever mix of players you like!

If your team had previously made arrangements for a 2-day event and wishes to continue to play on Sunday please let us know.  We will monitor how many teams are interested in a 2nd day's play and then coordinate with those teams to put on the most appropriate/popular event (hat tournament, coaching clinic, etc).

We've had a very large number of new schools join us recently - which is great!. We are of course aware that it can be tricky to organise logistics for something like this, but we'd love to have as many of you there as possible, so do please get in touch on the email below with any questions at all and we'll do what we can to help you make it happen.

Entry is through the UKU Event Entry Form.

And don't miss the closing date - 27 May 2017.

JUNIOR NATIONALS

Player Eligibility: Born on or after 1st Jan 1998
