UKU Junior (U20) Outdoor Nationals and Schools National Championships 2015-16

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 19/02/2016 - 4:21pm
Event date:
2 Jul 2016 (All day) - 3 Jul 2016 (All day)
Event details:

We are pleased to announce that UKU Junior Outdoor Nationals will return to the excellent (and centrally located) Pavilion, Moor Lane, Birmingham B6 7AA.

UKU Schools National Championship Finals are a 1-day, 5-a-side event on the Saturday only (approx 10am-5pm), whereas Junior Nationals is a 2 day, full-pitch 7-a-side event.

All events are Open divisions (i.e. no restrictions on gender) - there's nothing to prevent either an all-male or all-female team, or anywhere in between. A large percentage of teams will be mixed gender, so bring whatever mix of players you like!

Note that for those schools teams who wish to play both days (for example if a school also has a team in the U20s and wish to share transport), we are able to add some school teams (or combinations of school teams if preferred) to the lower bracket of the Junior schedule on the Sunday, where in previous years they have generally found a very suitable level of competition.

We've had a very large number of new schools join us recently - which is great!. We are of course aware that it can be tricky to organise logistics for something like this, but we'd love to have as many of you there as possible, so do please get in touch on the email below with any questions at all and we'll do what we can to help you make it happen.

And don't miss the closing date - 3rd June!

JUNIOR NATIONALS

Player Eligibility: Born on or after 1st Jan 1997

Membership/Affiliation requirements:

Players playing for UKU-affiliated schools playing as school teams are not required to have membership.

All other players must have minimum Basic Membership of UK Ultimate.

Team sizes and planning:

Clubs must ensure that they have appropriate levels of adult supervision in place for the event.

Based on past experience please note that you should not enter a team unless you have at least 10 fit players able to travel.

We also strongly recommend that teams plan to have a non-playing adult travelling with the team.   There have been instances where small teams have had an injury, and a second player has had to accompany the injured player to hospital, leaving behind a team that is too small to continue.  This not only spoils the tournament for the team concerned, but also for their opposition who have travelled and paid to play games, only to find they have a walkover - not ideal for anyone.

Need a team?
If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation by emailing admin[at]ukultimate.com and have UKU ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. Where possible, players are linked up with players from a similar geographical area.

Multiple-teams:

Clubs are welcome to enter more than one team, but in the event that the tournament becomes oversubscribed, clubs entering multiple additional teams may find lower ranked teams placed on a waiting list.

UKU SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS

Player Eligibility: We expect to run 2 divisions.

For the Y11 Division, all players must be in Year 11 or lower.

For the Y8 Division, all players must be in Year 8 or lower.

Team Eligibility:

All teams must be strictly school teams.  In the future we expect all teams will have to qualify through local qualification events.  For the time being, all school teams that wish to enter will be considered eligible.

Given that we are still not at the stage of having numerous regional qualifiers, for now we WILL accept multiple entries from one school (only if there is room of course - priority always given to 1st teams). This should NOT be taken to mean that this will always be possible in the future, but for now we see no benefit in turning teams away.

Membership/Affiliation requirements:

Players do not need individual membership provided the school is UKU-affiliated. Please contact admin[at]ukultimate.com for more information on Schools Affiliation.

Team sizes and planning:

RULES: Please remember this is a 5-a-side competition played to the “UKU-Schools” adapted rules with smaller playing area, and relatively short games.  Exact game-lengths and tournament format will depend on the number of teams that enter.
For more information please look here: http://www.ukultimate.com/uku-schools

Contact email:

benji.heywood@ukultimate.com

Price:
£135 Juniors, £70 Schools
How to register:

Through the UKU Entry Form.

Entries are open now, and there is a closing date of 3rd June (4 weeks before the event) after which we will confirm the teams who have been awarded a place. If places remain after that date, then we will of course still accept entries, but it is nevertheless important that we do have a defined date at which teams know they can definitely book travel for their 2nd/3rd/4th teams.

If oversubscribed, priority will go to first teams, and then to 2nd ahead of 3rd, and so on; should the cut off fall between teams at the same level, then the results of last year will be used to rank the teams on the bubble. If that does not provide an answer, we will draw lots.

We understand that you may not have complete control over the financial procedures at your institution, so the 3rd June is not a payment deadline - but teams who pull out after that date may still be charged. Being signed up at that time is a firm commitment to play, and to pay.

Accomodation and transport:

The last time we used this venue, we offered camping on site but it was not required by any of the teams. We therefore do not at this time intend to offer it this year. Please do get in touch ASAP if camping would be your only option - we're happy to try and set something up, if a few teams are interested - but don't leave it until the last minute and assume we'll still be able to find a solution!

UKU Junior Women's Indoor Nationals 2015/16

Submitted by benheywood on Mon, 14/09/2015 - 9:29am
Event date:
14 Nov 2015 (All day)
Event details:

Junior Women's Indoor Nationals will be held on this date at the excellent three-pitch Arena Sports Kettering, meaning we can accommodate more teams this year. The event is expected to run from approx 10am-5pm on the Saturday only.

The Info pack for the weekend is now available from https://goo.gl/ns8k08, and the schedule on https://goo.gl/l45y8d.

Both can be downloaded as pdfs below for printing.

Entry into the tournament will cost £65 per team.  Payment will be made directly to UKU.  In order to secure a place in the tournament, please fill in the form here:

http://www.ukultimate.com/event_entry_form

Please note that the initial deadline for entries will be Thursday 22nd October. The deadline is relatively early (3 weeks from the tournament) in order that we can confirm who has a spot in plenty of time to organise your transport etc.

At this deadline, spaces in the tournament may be allocated to second and third teams. If you would like to enter more than one team, please read the details below before entering, and be aware that they may not all get in (and won't be confirmed until after 22nd October). With the larger 3-pitch tournament, we do hope to accommodate all the teams who wish to participate, but we can't guarantee it until after that date.

If you have a small number of players but not enough for a full team (or enough for 1 but not quite enough for 2), please get in touch because it's likely that others will be in the same position and we could combine players so that more girls get to take part. Of course. all combined team must be approved by UKU to prevent super-teams, so do please contact Junior coordinator Joe Wyatt on joewyatt7[at]gmail.com to discuss.

Eligibility:
As per the UKU Junior eligibility rules, to be eligible for this UKU under-20 division you must have been born on or after January 1st 1996.

Where possible teams should be made up of girls from a single club / school / organisation but where that is not possible, the first option should usually be to pick up for the most local team.  If you want to play for a team that is not your school team, please get in touch and we will do what we can to make sure that this is done fairly.

Multiple teams:
Places will initially be reserved for first teams. Any additional teams will be placed on a waiting list.  These teams will be given spaces if they are still available after the initial deadline, with priority going to second teams, then third teams if appropriate. For teams at the same level places will be distributed on a first come first served basis - i.e. second team spots go to the earliest second teams to enter, and third team spots to the earliest third teams to enter, but that does NOT mean that an early third team goes ahead of someone else's second team.

Other info:

Essential: Do not enter a team unless you have AT LEAST 7 fit players who are able to travel.

Advisable: Have at least one non-playing adult with the team, in case they need to accompany injured players to hospital or similar.

UKU Junior (U20) Open Indoor Nationals 2015-16

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 11/09/2015 - 1:40pm
Event date:
27 Feb 2016 - 00:00 - 28 Feb 2016 - 11:59
Event details:

The UKU Junior (U20) Open Indoor Championships 2015-16 will be held at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton (WV6 9NW). There are 4 good size halls and there is balcony space and a cafe/bar onsite, as well as supermarkets nearby.

Eligibility

There is no qualifying round, and no 'minimum standard' that your team must meet - there will certainly be teams of beginners participating. If you are a newly formed school team, you are very, very much invited!

As per the UKU Junior eligibility rules, to be eligible for this UKU under-20 division you must have been born on or after January 1st 1997.

Please contact Junior Coordinator Joe Wyatt (joewyatt7[at]gmail.com) if there are any queries.

If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team locally, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation to the Junior Forum (email to: joewyatt7[at]gmail.com is sufficient) and have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. It is NOT appropriate for teams to be formed from friends all over the country (e.g. GB players) without checking with the Junior coordinator. There have been a few issues in recent years with combinations of players/teams that have not been checked or verified appropriately; please be organised, up front, and go through the correct systems.

Please also note that eligibilty decisions are made by volunteers - we're keen to help out, but do make sure to get your requests in early to make that easier.

Accommodation

Hopefully the central location will mean that the majority of teams might be able to travel home rather than needing accommodation on the Saturday night, but for some of you that clearly won't be possible. Obviously you are free to organise your own plans, and places like www.travelodge.co.uk (and there are a number around the motorways or Wolverhampton!) often have good deals, and there are a smattering of Youth Hostels nearby (www.yha.org.uk).

If you are really struggling for accommodation, please get in touch on benji.heywood@ukultimate.com and we will do what we can to assist, but we do not intend to offer accommodation as part of the tournament.

Other info

Please note: Clubs are welcome to enter more than one team, but in the event that the tournament is oversubscribed clubs entering multiple teams may find lower-ranked teams placed on a waiting list. However, the tournament has a large capacity and this is relatively unlikely based on previous years' entries.

Essential: Do not enter a team unless you have AT LEAST 7 fit players who are able to travel.

Advisable: Have at least one non-playing adult with the team, in case they need to accompany injured players to hospital or similar.

Entry and payment

Entry is through the UKU Event Entry Form. You can select your preferred method of payment on the form.

We anticipate that we will have space for everyone who wishes to enter; however, it is just about possible that we will approach capacity and have to turn some teams away. The closing date for entries will therefore be Friday 5th February, at which point we will confirm entries for all the teams we can fit. There will probably still be spaces available after that, but your first team will no longer have priority over someone else's 7th team after that date.

UKU U17 & U14 Open Indoor Nationals 2015-16

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 11/09/2015 - 1:34pm
Event date:
23 Jan 2016 (All day) - 24 Jan 2016 (All day)
Event details:

The UKU Under-17 and Under-14 Open Indoor Championships 2014-15 will be held at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton (WV6 9NW) on the weekend of Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th January 2016.

The playing schedule and Info Pack can now be seen on these links:

Schedule: https://goo.gl/H3iHe6

Info Pack: https://goo.gl/k8NGRT

or as PDFs below for printing.

Note that the online schedule should update during the day for those following along at home.

UPDATE:

Due to the venue double-booking us (nothing we can do; they made an error) we are not able to access the sports hall for most of the weekend. We will still be hosting the event at Aldersley - not least because we are aware that many of you will have booked transport or accommodation already - but we will be in the Astrodome onsite rather than in the hall for the majority of the time.

The bad news:

The dome can realistically accommodate only 3 pitches. We also have access to the usual 4 pitches in the hall for an hour or so on the Saturday morning before the other booking comes in, but even so we will be significantly down on pitch-hours compared to last year. This is likely to mean starting earlier and/or finishing later (we won't finish late on Sunday of course), or a reduction in game lengths, or fewer games each, or possibly having room for fewer teams. The exact details of the compromises we need to make will depend on the entries we receive, but it is probably wise if you plan for an 0930 start this year.

(Obviously we will do our best to help those teams who need a late start, but for that first hour on Saturday we will have 7 pitches in use, meaning we need 28 teams to play in either the first or second game - late starts will be only for those who REALLY need it!)

The dome is a short walk away from the main building and does not have its own changing rooms or cafe etc - all the amenities are in the main building. There is a path connecting the two, and no roads to cross or anything like that, but of course it's still a hassle for the competitors to go back and forth. Depending on your circumstances, you may feel the need for additional responsible persons to supervise when some of your school are in the cafe and some are playing in the dome a short walk away. We can only apologise if the venue adjustment causes you difficulties - there really was no other option for us after the venue made the error.

The good news:

The really good news is that while negotiating this back-up option for this year, we have now got access to the dome, and have managed to reach agreement with the owners that we should be able to use it in future years too, alongside the main hall  - so this does secure our future at Aldersley as we expect to have access to SEVEN pitches and run very large events.

IMPORTANT

The floor of the dome is rubbercrumb turf. You will of course be fine with trainers, and there's no need for players to go out and purchase astroturf boots, but those who do have the (pimpled) astro boots or some firm-ground moulded football boots should bring them. Players should NOT wear either the longer, soft-ground studs, or any form of blades.

Be aware that these dome venues are often VERY COLD, and that your players will need warm clothes (for the short walk between the two sites, if nothing else!)

Eligibility

To be eligible for this UKU under-17 division you must be in Year 11 or below, born on or after 1st September 1999 (the rules for UK Domestic competition differ slightly to International competition).

To be eligible for the under-14 division you must be in Year 8 or below, born on or after 1st Sept 2002.

Please contact Joe Wyatt (joewyatt7[at]gmail.com) if there are any queries.

If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation to the Junior Forum (email to: joewyatt7[at]gmail.com is sufficient) and have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. There MAY be the potential for a bit of floorspace on the Saturday night at a local church hall if needed - please get in touch if desperate - but we won't organise this unless you ask us to, with plenty of notice. In previous years we have not provided accommodation at this event, so do let us know as soon as possible if you will need help.

Price:

How to register:

The cost of the tournament is £85 per team. If you want to come YOU MUST FILL IN THE FORM FOUND AT THIS LINK

Payment details will be sent to you by email once you have filled in the form. If your school require an invoice in order to make the payment, please make this clear on the web entry form and provide any additional details that will be needed.

Please bear in mind that we may need to limit the number of teams per school. We are not setting a limit up-front, but will need to monitor the situation as entries come in.  You can help us with this by getting your entries done sooner rather than later.

Accordingly, the initial closing date for entries will be Monday 14th December. At this point, we'll award spots to some of those teams who have entered and hopefully enable them to make plans before the Christmas break. Of course, we understand that this is fairly soon, and we do intend to still accept entries after this on a first come, first served basis (and we'll try to leave a little space for more schools rather than let in someone's 11th team - though this may not be possible).

The initial closing date for entries will be 4 weeks before the event - 29th May 2015. There may still be spaces after this time - please get in touch with any queries - but that is the date at which we will confirm entry for e.g. 2nd and 3rd teams, and any remaining spaces will be strictly first come first served.

We understand that you may not have complete control over the financial procedures at your institution, so the 29th May is not a payment deadline - but teams who pull out after that date may still be charged. Being signed up at that time is a firm commitment to pay and to play.

Accomodation and transport:

We ARE able to arrange camping at this venue, which we expect to be free. However, we need you to let us know ASAP if you intend to take up that option - obviously there is quite a lot involved in making that happen and if no teams require it (no-one did last year!) then we would need to cancel it as soon as possible. There is a question on the entry form about it; alternatively (if you aren't able to enter yet, but you know already that you'll probably camp) please email benji.heywood@ukultimate.com to let us know.

Remember that you are responsible for the supervision of your team - we can arrange camping, and open the toilets etc, but we do not undertake to be responsible for your players overnight!

We also asked some local players for advice on accommodation, and this is the list they came up with - you'll have to use google from here on in, but some of these might help you look in the right place!

Event details:

This year's Junior Women's Indoor Nationals will be held on Sunday November 30th at Ellowes Hall Sports College, Dudley.  There will be space for 16 teams. The event will run from approximately 9:30am to 5pm.

A DRAFT schedule is now out - please have a look and spot any errors!

http://goo.gl/7QicsS

Don't base any travel decisions on this as it may change if we find errors - we'll confirm it by thursday evening hopefully. If you have any comments (e.g. 'we REALLY need to start later please!') do get in touch and we'll try to make adjustments if possible.

A pdf version is below if that's easier for you to view.

-----------------

Entry into the tournament will cost £60 per team.  Payment will be made directly to UKU.  In order to secure a place in the tournament, please fill in the form here:

http://www.ukultimate.com/event_entry_form

Please note that the initial deadline for entries will be Friday 7th November. The deadline is relatively early (3 weeks from the tournament) in order that we can confirm who has a spot in plenty of time to organise your transport etc.

After this deadline, spaces in the tournament may be allocated to second and third teams. If you would like to enter more than one team, please read the details below before entering, and be aware that they may not all get in (and won't be confirmed until after 7th November).

If you have a small number of players but not enough for a full team (or enough for 1 but not quite enough for 2), get in touch because it's likely that others will be in the same position and we could combine players so that more girls get to take part.

Eligibility:
Players should be born in 1995 or later. Where possible teams should be made up of girls from a single club / school / organisation but where that is not possible, the first option should be to pick up for the most local team.  If you want to play for a team that is not your school or most local team, please get in touch and we will do what we can to make sure that this is done fairly.

Multiple teams:
The number of teams at this tournament has varied hugely in the past.  We have taken the decision to stick to 16 teams for ease of organisation. Places will initially be reserved for first teams. Any additional teams will be placed on a waiting list.  These teams will be given spaces if they are still available after the initial deadline (November 17th), with priority going to second teams, then third teams if appropriate.  We expect there will be spaces for a several 2nd / 3rd teams and these will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Entry will be through the UKU Event Entry Form. You can select your preferred method of payment on the form.

We anticipate that we will have space for everyone who wishes to enter; however, it is possible that we will approach capacity and have to turn some teams away. The closing date for entries will therefore be Friday 30th January, at which point we will confirm entries for all the teams we can fit. There may be spaces available after this date, but your first team will no longer have priority over someone else's 7th team after the end of January.

We apologise that the cost has gone from £80 to £90; unfortunately the venue cost has risen by almost 50% and we've passed only a very small proportion of this on to the teams. We may not be able to stay at this venue for future years - the price of Aldersley next year may be more than double what we paid in 2014!
