UKU Junior Outdoor Nationals and Schools National Championships 2013

Submitted by Si Hill on Wed, 08/05/2013 - 11:12am
Event date:
6 Jul 2013 - 09:00 - 7 Jul 2013 - 17:00
Event details:

Junior Outdoor Nationals will this year return to The Pavilion, Moor Lane in Birmingham (location details below).

As of 2013 we are adding the 1-day UKU Schools National Championship Finals to this event.

INFORMATION PACK - useful for coaches, captains, players and spectators

Player Eligibility: Born on or after 1st Jan 1994

Membership/Affiliation requirements:

Players playing for UKU-affiliated schools playing as school teams are not required to have membership.

All other players must have minimum Basic Membership.

Team sizes and planning:

Clubs must ensure that they have appropriate levels of adult supervision in place for the event.

Based on past-experience please note that you should not enter a team unless you have at least 10 fit players able to travel.

We also strongly recommend that teams plan to have a non-playing adult travelling with the team.   There have been instances where small teams have had an injury, and a second player has had to accompany the injured player to hospital, leaving behind a team that is too small to continue.  This not only spoils the tournament for the team concerned, but also for their opposition who have travelled and paid to play games, only to find they have a walkover.  Not ideal for anyone.

Need a team?
If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation to the Junior Forum (email to: kev_lowe@hotmail.com is sufficient) and have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. Where possible, players are linked up with players from a similar geographical area.

Clubs are welcome to enter more than one team, but in the event that the tournament becomes oversubscribed, clubs entering multiple additional teams may find lower ranked teams placed on a waiting list.

Player Eligibility: All players must be in Year 11 or lower

Team Eligibility:

All teams must be strictly school teams.  In the future we expect all teams will have to qualify through local qualification events.  For the time being, all school teams that wish to enter (max 1 team per school) will be considered eligible.

Membership/Affiliation requirements:

Players do not need individual membership provided the school is UKU-affiliated.

Team sizes and planning:

RULES: Please remember this is a 5-a-side competition played to the “UKU-Schools” adapted rules with smaller playing area, and relatively short games.  Exact game-lengths and tournament format will depend on the number of teams that enter.
For more information please look here: http://www.ukultimate.com/uku-schools

The Schools Championships will run between 10:30am and 5:00pm.

Accomodation and transport:

Camping is available at this venue on Saturday night only.

Please note that your team is fully responsible for all players that camp in particular including making sure that you have the appropriate number of adult supervisors for your group.  UKU does not provide any supervision for young people wishing to camp at this event.

If you don’t want to camp then there are plenty of cheap hotels in the area (Travelodge, etc) but you will need to organise this yourself.

UKU U17 Open Indoor Nationals 2012-13

Submitted by Si Hill on Tue, 18/12/2012 - 6:47pm
Event date:
26 Jan 2013 - 08:00 - 27 Jan 2013 - 18:00
Event details:

Following successful U20 and U17 Indoor tournaments over recent years, the UKU Under-17 Open Indoor Championships 2013 will be held at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton (WV6 9NW) on the weekend of Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th January 2013. There are 4 good size halls and there is balcony space and a cafe/bar onsite, as well as supermarkets nearby.

Lookfly are going to have a merchandise stall at the tournament - likely to be Saturday only.

To be eligible to play you must be in Year 11 or below, born on or after 1st September 1996 (the rules for UK Domestic competition differ slightly to International competition; to be eligible to play for GB Under 17s in 2013 you need to be born on or after 1st January 1997. Please contact (kev_lowe@hotmail.com if there are any queries). There have been a few issues in recent years with combinations of players/teams that have not been checked or verified appropriately; please be organised, up front, and go through the correct systems.

I am hoping that the central location will mean that the majority of teams might be able to travel home rather than needing accommodation on the Saturday night, but I recognise that for some of you that won't be possible. Obviously you are free to organise your own plans, and places like www.travelodge.co.uk (and there are a number around the motorways or Wolverhampton!) often have good deals (e.g. family rooms which could sleep 4 from £19 per night), and there are a smattering of Youth Hostels in Staffordshire (www.yha.org.uk).

There is the potential for a bit of floorspace on the Saturday night at a local church for any teams which may find that helpful.

The cost of the tournament is to £75 per team. If you want to come YOU MUST FILL IN THE FORM FOUND AT THIS LINK

Payment details will be sent to you by email once you have filled in the form. If your school require an invoice in order to make the payment, please make this clear on the web entry form and provide any additional details that will be needed.

We expect payment by Friday 11th January (after which the schedule will be written) to confirm you place at the event. Please get in touch if the payment process means you expect to miss the date. This will be fine but please get in touch to make sure we know about it.

Event date:
27 Jan 2013 - 10:00 - 19:00
Event details:

We like to run fun competitive tournaments that cater for everyone who wants to play. After a very successful Regionals a lot of teams asked for more 1 day tournaments so we thought we'd run some early next year!

We're going to be running up to 3 divisions, perhaps side by side, perhaps 1 after the other ... we'll find out how you want to play, then write the perfect schedule to suit.
It might be the ideal time to warm up before Open, Women's & Mixed Nationals ...
You might want to split your team in 2 and challenge each other in over the tournament ...

Event details:

UK Ultimate is involved in a project called The Matalan Sporting Promise. The yoUR Activity element of this school sports initiative aims is to introduce alternative sports, like Ultimate, to secondary schools across the U.K. In The Daily Mirror (March 1st) the Promise has a four page central insert with details about the motivations behind the project, the Youth Sport Trust and Sir Steve's involvement as the ambassador.

Ultimate is mentioned for our involvement with yoUR Activity, including a nice shot of one of the young players throwing a disc.

The 4th page of the article announces the offical launch of the project at Trafalgar Square on March 22nd! If players from London find themselves with a free day, why not come along and see Sir Steve Redgrave in the flesh, hopefully showing off his newly aquired skills with a disc!

Watch a video of Sir Steve helping teach Ultimate
at the John Spence Community High in Tyneside

UK Ultimate will be in attendance with a few short demonstration of Ultimate being coached to a groups of young people from a local school, along with a number of other sports involved with the Promise, the first being at 10:00.

The event is a public showcase so please fell free to come along and see what it's all about! There will be speeches from the ambassador of the Promise Sir Steve Redgrave as well as others suchs as Baroness Sue Campbell (Chair of UK Sport), John Steele (CEO of the Youth Sport Trust) and Darren Blackhurst (CEO of Matalan). The speachs are likely to be at 10:30.

For those who are interested please visit the Sporting Promise website!
