Consultation on Mixed & Women's Nationals 2012 and beyond...

Over the past ten years, we have always struggled to find the right place in the season for Mixed Nationals.  The Competitions Committee has come up with a potential new approach (see below) - but please note we would like feedback on this IDEA before making the final decision.  And in particular please note that there is big knock-on impact to Women's Nationals too.

Based on the poll-responses received so far we decided to provide some additional information on some of the common questions/comments - but please read the proposal and poll first if you have not done so already.

BUCS Gold for Exeter's Uriel

This weekend (sat 26th & sun 27th) six qualifying teams from each region across the UK's University division competed at the UKU University Open Indoor Nationals. BUCS Division One was held at the Alan Higgs Centre in Coventry, and Division Two was held in St.Albans.

Division One [and UKU National] Champions are Exeter University’s Uriel, who played a fantastic final to beat Manchester's Halcyon to the gold. Congratulations also go to Dundee for their victory in the bronze playoff. 

In Division Two, Cardiff beat Liverpool in an exciting sudden death final. This match, along with all the games from the weekend, was steamed live on the St.Albans Ultimate website with the help of ultimate media group LOVEultimate.

Live Match Streaming - UKU Uni Indoor Nationals - Div 2

This weekend St. Albans Ultimate - who are hosting Uni Indoor Nationals, div 2 - will be streaming the games live from the event. Along with games from the club tournament being run alongside Dvi 2 called "Spectator Sport"

It all kicks off tomorrow morning (Saturday the 26th), hopefully on time at 9:00am

GB Junior Regional Skills Days

  There are 5 regional GB-Junior skills days coming up this month (October 2011). These are a great chance to help improve players' skills and gain access to the experience of the GB coaches. All players of any experience are welcome. These will also allow more players to be considered for selection for the GB squad for Worlds in 2012.
Any player that wishes to be selected for the U20 male team, must attend one of the regional days to then be invited to attend the national trial.

8th October - Guildford, 9th October - Bristol, 15th October - Leeds (Boston Spa), 29th October - Midlands (Sutton Coldfield)

2011 - Iceni Strikes Back

Iceni Ultimate EUCF 2011: Iceni Ultimate celebrate their victory at European Ultimate Championship Finals 2011. In the Open division, Clapham lost a thrilling final in sudden death to Flying Angels Bern, but took some consolation in being awarded Spirit of the Game. 

World Beach Champions!

GB Mixed Masters 2011: GB Mixed Masters 2011 shortly after becoming World Beach Champions.  The team did the double as they were also awarded the Spirit of the Game award for their division. Great Britain Ultimate sent teams to all six divisions of the World Championships Beach Ultimate 2011, held in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy 22nd to 27th August 2011.

GB Mixed Masters stole the show after over-turning first-round defeats against Germany and USA to grab the World title.  The team also won the coveted Spirit of the Game award for their division.  Mixed-Masters final report by Tony Leonardo.

The Women's team narrowly missed out in their semi-final after a sudden death loss to Canada, but re-grouped to claim the bronze medal.

GB take to the beach

WCBU2011 The Week GB are taking to the beaches in six different divisions to competition to be World Champions of Beach Ultimate. These divisions are Open, Mixed, Womens, Masters, Mixed Masters and Grand Masters. between Aug 21 & Aug 28; 73 teams and 1,100+ athletes from 30 countries and 5 continents will compete on the idyllic beaches of Lignano Sabbiadoro (Italy) to be Champions.

Beach Ultimate is similar to grass Ultimate, but played on the beach. The pitch is a different size and there is a different [less] number of players. It could also be considered to have a different atmosphere. To find out more about the beach game by clicking here. 

The WCBU2011 will be the biggest ever Beach Ultimate World Championships, plus the biggest online and social media event in the history of Ultimate! 14 games will be broadcast LIVE. There will be behind-the-scenes videos, live scoring of all the games, incorporating Blogs, Facebook, Twitter feeds, YouTube channels, shared photos and videos for mash-ups.
