2. Consultation on Women's & Mixed Nationals

With such a full club calendar, we have always had problems accommodating a well-attended Mixed Nationals.  In recent years Mixed Nationals was staged as one of the Tour events, but this is generally unpopular.  Realistically there is simply not enough space in the calendar to create a standalone Mixed Nationals event and retain the "split season", so the Competition Committee developed a proposal to run Mixed Nationals alongside the other divisions at UKU Nationals in August.

There are lots of compromises, and the proposal has a significant impact on Women's Nationals too.  Please take a look at the details, and fill in the poll.  To be clear, the decision on whether to proceed with this idea will largely depend on the feedback.

3. Notice of  AGM

The 2012 AGM will be held on the Saturday evening of Mixed Tour 1 in Cardiff.  Time and location to be announced.

The 2011 AGM took place in Cheltenham on Friday 13th May MT3.  Minutes from the meeting together with a 2010 Annual Report and statutory accounts can be found here.

4. Changes to membership renewal date.

As of October 1st 2011 a fixed expiry date of 30th Sept for all UKU memberships will come in to effect.  All membership details in terms of types of membership and prices are unchanged.  Please see the website for further details.

5. Ultimatum!2011
Ultimatum!2011 is being finished off now.  Please check that your contact details on the website are up to date - many people do not receive Ultimatum simply because the address they have on the website is missing or wrong.
6. Coach Registration scheme

The coach registration scheme has been created to support coaches who are involved in coaching Ultimate beyond an informal player-coach role within their local club.  The scheme helps with coaching insurance, and provides a mechanism for those who wish to coach children and young people with a safeguarding policy and a procedure for attaining a CRB check with UK Ultimate.

Please see the website for more details about the UKU Coaching Scheme and UKU Coach Registration.

7. International Results round up

Did you know that there were 14 different Great Britain teams competing across three different international Ultimate events in 2011?

At the European Ultimate Championships (EUC 2011) in Slovenia the Mixed and Masters cruised to victory, with Open and Women both winning silver medals after overcoming losses in early rounds.  Next stop, WUGC 2012 in Japan.

At the European Youth Ultimate Championships (EYUC 2011), Poland, the U17 Girls won gold, with the U17 Boys winning silver.  The Junior (U20) teams had a tougher time: both coming 4th. They now look forward to the World Junior Ultimate Championships 2012 to be staged in Ireland, 12th August 2012.

The World Championships Beach Ultimate (WCBU 2011) were held in Italy.  GB Mixed Masters came home as World Champions - and SOTG winners - in the only division not won by USA.  The Women's team claimed the bronze medal after a sudden-death semi-final loss to Canada.  The Grandmasters also won Spirit of the Game.  More information and links available on the website.

The European Ultimate Championships Series is now the well-established season-closer.  This year's event was held in Brugge at the home of Tom's Tourney.  Iceni finished a very dominant season by taking the gold medal in the Women's division.  Clapham had to accept silver after a great final, but were awarded Spirit of the Game.  Chevron beat Skogs to the bronze, and Brighton secured a top 8 start for a third UK team at next year's EUCF.

8. Women's Masters at WUGC 2012

WUGC 2012 may see the first World Championships in Women's Masters division, but this depends on whether enough teams enter.  Currently GB has not confirmed that we have a team although of course there are enough potential players out there.  Are you interested in helping to coordinate our response?  We must make a commitment one or the other this month (Jan 2012).  If you are interested in recruiting and coordinating our initial plans please get in touch.  We're not asking you to be the captain right now - we just need help working out whether we have enough players to form a team this time around.
