AGM and Board Election

The UK Ultimate AGM will take place in Manchester on Sat 28th April (in the marquee at end of play Sat evening).  The AGM itself will last approx 1 hour, and will include a brief report on the year, a short review of our current plans (2013-16), and an election of several board member positions.

Three positions on the Board are up for re-election following a structure of rotating elections that we have now put in place:

Director for Junior Ultimate (Kev Lowe)

Director of Competitions (Ben Heywood)

Director without portfolio (Tom Howard)

Ben Heywood (DoC) and Tom Howard are both are re-standing for their respective positions.  Kev Lowe is still trying to step-down, and is not re-standing.

If you are interested in standing for any of the roles please:

The closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 14th April.

The election itself will start electronically in the week commencing Mon 15th April, and will be concluded at the AGM where members may vote in person if they did not vote electronically.

If you are interested in getting involved but would like to discuss what is involved, please feel free to get in touch with Si Hill (or another board member) who will be happy to provide more details.

Events Roundup

Congratulations to all the teams that won Indoor National championships in the 2012-13 season.  The Feb results are listed here and the Junior Indoor Nationals story (congrats to Airbadgers) is here.

The outdoor season has begun...

Uni Outdoor Regionals took place on the weekend of 8-9 March and there is a great round-up on the Push-Pass website.

Uni Mixed Outdoor Nationals was going to be in Durham until the recent weather meant a very late cancellation and a hurriedly re-arranged (2 days!) event in Manchester.  Thanks to all involved in a fantastic refusal to admit defeat - and especially Elly White.  Congratulations to Edinburgh for winning the tournament.

Matalan Sporting Promise

This week (Tues 26th) saw the launch of the Matalan Sporting Promise Sporting Communities.  UK Ultimate is involved in this pilot project to create Ultimate clubs that are open to members of the community and based in and around schools that have started playing - in this case as a result of the MSP Your Activity project that has been running for several years now.  Sir Steve Redgrave is becoming quite proficient at playing ultimate now... some pictures from the launch on our facebook page.

The project includes funding that originates with Sport England, and in the pilot phase will see us working to build up two clubs in Greater Manchester and three in Staffordshire.

GB Ultimate

UKU have selected "JUMP+REACH / GAIA Europe" to be the Official Clothing Supplier to GB Ultimate for the period 2013-14.  GB players should look out for more information in the coming week or so about ordering process.

There will be some samples (for sizing, not the GB designs) at Mixed Tour 1 for players to try.  Please take care with the samples.

UKU Membership and Club Affiliation

Many players have renewed their membership already noting that we have changed to a fixed renewal date of 30th September every year.  If you have not yet updated your membership please remember that you must have full membership (or uni/u18 full membership) to be eligible to play in the UKU Mixed Tour events or Uni Nationals.

Team captains are reminded to check that their players do have membership in place.  The blanket requirement relates to liability insurance, and all competitors at UKU events must have membership.  You might think bad things never happen - but they do.  They really do.

UKU Club Affiliation now live

UK Ultimate Club Affiliation is now available.

  1. It allows UK Ultimate to have a formal and clear relationship with clubs (as organisations rather than whichever team member happens to email to enter an event).  We need this to improve procedures around entering events, managing rosters, etc, but perhaps most of all in presenting information about clubs to the general public.
  2. It provides us with a framework that clubs and UKU can use together to support clubs that would like to offer Ultimate to young people and/or vulnerable adults; and supporting clubs in adopting structures and governance that will better enable them to apply for funding and grants.
  3. It allows us to extend the UKU's liability insurance to club committees at a really low cost to the clubs.

Please look here for more details.
