Tonbridge Youth Ultimate Tournament 2019 – Results & Round Up

Tonbridge School in Kent has hosted a Youth Ultimate Tournament for schools and clubs in the South East for a number of years now, and 2019 was the biggest ever with eleven schools and clubs entering seventeen teams in the competition! So diverse was the profile of entries that the tournament was run across two divisions.

Division 1 had Y11 to Y13 open teams from Tonbridge School, Reigate Grammar, Windsor Wolves, Sussex Stingrays, St Pauls, Gravesend Grammar and Gildredge House. The coaches of these squads also entered a team which provided some extra incentive for players to try and ‘beat the teachers’!

Division 2 was made up of squads of Y7 to Y10 open, mixed and girl’s teams representing Gildredge House, Windsor Wolves, Fulham College, Wyvern and St Edmunds and Thomas Bennett School.

Despite the weather delivering a dramatic overture of rain and hail just as the first games started at 2pm, participants saw plenty of sun and only a little more rain as the teams competed hard and enthusiastically for the next four hours. A fairly testing 15km/h wind kept handlers challenged throughout the afternoon, but teams coped well and all matches saw a good number of points scored in the 30 min games.

All games were played with great Spirit of the Game, and players and coaches alike had a great afternoon and were all delighted with how the tournament went. The cakes and sandwiches laid on by Tonbridge School went down extremely well too at the end of the afternoon!

Thanks go to Will Biddle for his hard work once again in making this annual event a fantastic success!
