WUGC 2008 - August 7th.

It is all getting quite tense out in Vancouver right now as the GB teams beging to play the games that will determine their final positions. Only two teams have a chance of a medal. Read on to find out who.

The GB Junior Women remain winless depsite a good effort against the Fins yesterday and are playing for 5th - 7th spot. The GB Masters could not pull off the necessary double victory over the Canadians and Americans and so missed out on the semi finals despite running Canada to 17-15. They now play for 5th - 8th starting with a game against France. GB Mixed could not beat the Australian team to give them a shot at the semi finals and so also play for 5th - 8th. A win against France gives them a chance for revenge against the Germans in their final game. GB Women lost an agonising sudden death quarter final game against the Australians but bounced back to beat Colombia and currently are playing New Zealand for 5th place.

Now onto the medal hopes. The GB Junior Open team started the event with four losses but then bounced back to win two games and give themselves a cross over against the Australians to make the semi final. They won 17-15, avenging an earlier loss but then lost their semi final against the very strong Canada team. They now play Germany for a bronze medal. The GB Open team had a lot of work to do after losing their games against Canada and Japan but responded brilliantly by beating Italy 17-6 and Australia 17-11. This made up for their loss to them in the pool stages. They now have a semi final against Canada and are the only GB team with a shot at gold. Good luck to all the teams especially the Junior Open and Open teams.
