Club Ultimate
There are Ultimate clubs across the UK that compete at various levels.
Some clubs offer opportunities to play regularly and compete against local teams or at local events. Some enjoy playing at tournaments hosted by UKU and other organisers. Many clubs play at UKU events held throughout the UK and gain a UKU ranking. Some compete for a spot in the UKU National Championships, the showcase event of the season. Some clubs also compete in the European Ultimate Club Series.
Ultimate is played in three divisions: Mixed, Women’s and Open. Some clubs provide playing opportunities in just one division, others enter teams across all three.
Club Competition Structure
The UKU Tour
All UKU outdoor club competitions are part of the UKU Tour which is made up of a number of events that contribute towards the UK Rankings. The UKU Rankings unite all clubs, from the occasional players to National champions, from Falmouth to Aberdeen (and a few international clubs too!) Rankings have been part of the UK Ultimate Club Competition structure since the Ultim-8 Tour began in 1997. In 2021, we switched to a Ranking system based on the win/loss result of individual games to increase flexibility and improve accessibility.
The UKU Rankings is deigned to allow clubs to compete across all divisions and to help us rank teams thought the UK regionally as well as nationally.
To qualify for the UKU National Championships, teams must attend qualification events.
Some qualification events are held regionally, where this is the case, teams must enter in their region:
NORTH: Scotland (Sc), Northern Ireland (NI), North-East (NE), North-West (NW), Yorkshire & Humberside (Y&H), West-Midlands (WM), East-Midlands (EM) and East-England (EE).
SOUTH: South-West (SW), Wales (Wa), South-East (SE), Greater London (GL)
If you need clarity as to which English region you fall under please take a look at this map. A club’s region is based on the home addresses of their players and/or their primary practice location. In cases where it is not clear, a final decision will be made by the UKU Competitions Committee.
More detail, additional information and notes on exceptions can be found in the event specific rules appendices (linked below).
Please note, we are unlikely to hold an event for a division where fewer teams enter regionals than there are spaces at Nationals.
How to enter events.
Club administrators enter events for the club’s teams via their membership profile.
