Indoors

Indoors is a popular variation of Ultimate and is played across different age groups and divisions. Indoors is a particularly important part of the way the sport is played at school and university levels.

Indoors can be played on different surfaces; in sports halls or rubber-crumb indoor pitches. The field dimensions are smaller that outdoors and it is usually played 5 a-side. At school level, we recommend Ultimate 4s (a mixed 4 a-side variation).

Many local groups and clubs enjoy playing recreational indoors throughout the year. Use our Find a Club map to discover opportunities to play near you.

Indoor competition

  • Youth & Schools

Indoors can be a good place for schools to start playing Ultimate as the disc is not impacted by the wind. Youth players in the U14, U17 and U20 age categories can compete at the UKU Indoor National Championships held annually for the Open and Women's divisions.

  • University

Indoors is an important part of university competition. Men’s and Women’s Indoor Nationals is part of the BUCS programme of sports. UKU hosts University Mixed Indoor Nationals (including regional qualification). There are also a number of indoor tournaments each year for beginners and experienced players run by university clubs and other organisers.

  • Club

Clubs can compete for the Indoor National title in the Open, Women’s and Mixed divisions. Teams must qualify for the National finals through qualifier events. Information about club indoor events can be found on the events calendar. The entry process is the same as outdoor club events.
