UKU Junior Women’s Indoor Nationals (JWIN) 2024

  • SGS WISE New Road Bristol, England, BS34 8LP United Kingdom (map)

Junior Women’s Indoor Nationals (JWIN) 2024 is a one day event for the following three divisions: Junior, U17 and U14.

Further details on eligibility, how to sign up and what expect if you’re new to the sport can be found below.

This event will follow the UKU Tournament Rules.

  • Ultimate is often played in day, weekend or week-long tournaments at which teams compete in a number of games rather than playing one-off fixtures.

We aim to ensure that schedules provide suitable game time and that teams have adequate rest.

You can find the indoor rules of Ultimate here, but if you have any questions please ask.

After each game please make sure your team provides a Spirit Score for your opposition. More information can be found in the accordion below and on our website here.

  • When entries are open there will be a link at the top of this page. If you need help entering your team, please see this document.

    Eligibility:

For a player to be eligible to compete at this event:

Players entered into the Junior Division must not turn 20 during the calendar year of the tournament.

Players entered into the Under-17 Division must not be seventeen (17) years old or older during the academic year in which the tournament concluded. In general this is intended to mean year 11 or below in England and Wales, and the equivalent school years in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Players entered into the Under-14 Division must not be fourteen (14) years old or older during the academic year in which the tournament concluded. In general this is intended to mean year 8 or below in England and Wales, and the equivalent school years in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

(more info can be found in the Youth Event Specific Rule Appendix)

There is no qualifying round, and no 'minimum standard' your team must meet - there will be teams of beginners participating. If you are a newly formed school team, this is still for you!

Players playing for UKU-affiliated schools playing as school teams are not required to have membership.

All other players must have minimum Basic Membership of UK Ultimate.

If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team. We simply need you to explain your situation by emailing events@ukultimate.com and we will let you know if there’s an appropriate team for you to join.

Please also note that eligibility decisions are made by volunteers so please get in touch early.

    Parking:

Lots of parking available on site however please be aware that there is a parking charge. There is an open day taking place on the same day as JWIN so we expect that the car park will be quite busy. Please make sure that you allow plenty of time to park and please follow the directions of the parking stewards.

    Playing Surface:

This year, the U20 division will be playing in a sports hall on Hardcourt and will need to use trainers. the U14 and U17 will be laying on rubber crumb (3G) pitches. Trainers are ok, but we advise astroturf or Football boots with short studs. Boots with long metal studs (eg Rugby style boots) or blades are not allowed.

    Timing:

    This is a one-day event, 09:00-1800

  • Surface: We are using a 3G Surface AND a Hardcourt surface for this event but each division will only play on one surface. The surface on which each division will play is still TBD based on entry numbers. This venue has rubber crumb (3G) pitches. Trainers are ok, but we advise astroturf or Football boots with short studs. Boots with long metal studs (eg Rugby style boots) or blades are not allowed. For the Hardcourt surface, it is trainers only.

Your belongings: Please don’t take all of your stuff right up to the side of the playing area. There is plenty of space around the edge of the hall. Essentials such as water or inhalers can be kept on the sidelines during play but they MUST be kept a safe distance from the edge of the pitch.

Clothes: Bring warm clothes to wear between games as the venue can be quite cold.

Water: There will be water available on-site. Please bring reusable water bottles to avoid plastic waste. There is a drinking water tap in the corridor between the hall and the entrance.

Food: There is no food for sale on site other than 2-3 vending machines. Please ensure all players and participants bring a good packed lunch and lots of snacks. There is a bar area where it is possible to buy hot and cold drinks.

Seating: In addition to the space in the hall, there is an area near the entrance to the building with benches and tables where players may also sit in between games - subject to permission / supervision from coaches/teachers as appropriate.

  • Please remember that it is never worth endangering yourself or others to get the disc. You must remain aware of other players and your surroundings.

Any incidents should be reported to the TD (the person running the event).

For First Aid please go to the TD desk.

For serious incidents, the nearest hospital is:

Southmead Hospital, Southmead Rd, Bristol, BS10 5NB

    0117 414 4569

Or call 999 for an ambulance.

  • Submit Spirit scores after each game using the button at the top of the page. The process usually takes a few minutes.

Please try to submit scores after each game, or by the end of play each day. Scores submitted after midnight on the last day of the event may not be included in the Spirit data.

    • Scoring should be a team effort

    • Go through each category on the online scorecard (you might want to remind the team what each one means)

    • Ask players to use their fingers to indicate their score (0-4). Ask anyone who scores more or less than 2 to briefly explain their reason - this may help others who can change their score if they want to. Try to go with the majority

    • Remember a score of 2 is ‘good’ or ‘as expected.

    • Leave a comment - this is essential if any of your scores are 0 or 4.
