Medical Support Team

UK Ultimate Chief Medical Officer,

Dr Kenny Duffy

Kenny is UK Ultimate’s volunteer Chief Medical Officer. Kenny leads a team of physios and other medical professionals that travel with our GB teams. He also takes a leading role in supporting planning and delivery of the international and other major events hosted by UKU. As CMO he also provides us with general support and guidance.

Kenny has worked as CMO at major international events hosted by UK Ultimate, including, most recently, the 2024 WFDF World Junior Ultimate Championships.

“Since qualifying as a physiotherapist in 2006, I've worked in different sports alongside working on the NHS. I decided to study medicine in 2010 and during my studies continued to work in sports. This included gymnastics and any multisport events such as Olympics, Commonwealth Games and European Games. It also included working as the physiotherapist for University of Dundee where I first worked with Ultimate athletes.

I moved to Edinburgh in 2015 where I have stayed for my postgraduate training and now work as a GP. Away from this role I work with gymnastics, athletics, rugby and ultimate often in dual roles as a physiotherapist and a doctor.

Currently I am the Chief Medical Officer for UK Ultimate where I organise and lead  medical teams at events to work alongside paramedic teams. Another aspect of my role is injury prevention and publishing guidance for this - this was the focus on MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine.

Qualifications:

  • BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy 2:1 (2006)

  • MBCHB (2015)

  • MRCGP (2020)

  • MSc (SEM - Distinction) (2022)

We would also like to thank the various emergency/paramedic partners who support our events around the UK, but in particular Ambulance Response Services Ltd who have worked with UKU since 2015 to provide excellent emergency and first aid support at so many events, from the smallest events to multiple World Championships.
